We’re coming into the Summer Solstice this week, marking the culmination point of the solar year! While the Summer Solstice is typically a time of joy, activity and celebration, this year it occurs during the dark phase of the moon. Outwardly, we may feel pulled toward activity and celebration as we are at the height of the summer season, but inwardly many of us will feel the need for solitude, and retreat. Luckily, the astrology of this week is relatively calm and provides an excellent opportunity to get away from the world to spend some time relaxing by the pool.
Monday (6/19): Venus in Taurus comes into a supportive sextile with Neptune in Pisces today, merging the planet of love, beauty, relationships, and material pleasures with the planet of mysticism and spirituality. This aspect brings greater depth to our relationships, causing us to feel more connected and compassionate. This is an excellent aspect for creative work or to escape to someplace magical with a partner.
bringing fated, karmic messages, communications, and maybe even short-distance travel plans that aim to assist us in more easily letting go of our attachments to the popular opinion of the collective. Over the next 1.5 years, during the transit of the lunar nodes through Leo & Aquarius, we’re being called to connect with the world in a way that is more generous, heartfelt and authentic all the while letting go of rigid, dogmatic ideologies that often fall under the guise “progressive” or “new age” thinking. Now is the time to begin expressing our individual purpose creatively, truthfully, and from the heart and to let go of seeking approval from the hive mind. Today Mercury helps to guide us toward the new path our soul has been yearning for.
Tuesday (6/20): Mercury in Gemini comes into a supportive sextile with Uranus in Aries today, merging our thoughts and communications with the rebellious and spontaneous nature of Uranus. This aspect brings unexpected inspiration and new concepts and ideas born out of communication with others. This is an excellent day to change things up in terms of marketing strategy or communication style, or simply to shake up our plans a bit and take a break from our standard routine.
The Sun moves into the sign of Cancer today (or tomorrow depending on your location), which means that today is the Summer Solstice! “In Western astrology, the Summer Solstice occurs on the exact day that the Sun transitions out of the sign of Gemini and into the sign of Cancer. Cancer is considered a “cardinal” sign in the Western, tropical zodiac, and the Summer Solstice is one of the four quarterly markers associated with what is known as the “cardinal cross” in astrology. The cardinal signs correspond with the change of seasons, with each point on the cardinal cross representing an energy that is innovative and outgoing, signifying the beginning of something new. Cancer is the sign most closely associated with the home and family. Under the influence of the Sun in Cancer, we seek a greater sense of emotional security through our connections with our family lineage and the people in our lives who matter to us most. It is an ideal time for gathering with our families and communities, seeking comfort in the familiar through ritual and routine.
Cancer is a water sign and the combination of the Sun and the sign of Cancer represents the merging of Fire and Water. In fact, traditional Midsummer celebrations revered the elements of Fire and Water for their life-sustaining powers. On this day, bonfires were lit to enhance the Sun’s life-force and wells were blessed so that water would continue to flow to sustain the life of the village.”
Wednesday (6/21): Mercury moves into the watery and intuitive sign of Cancer today, forming a conjunction with the Sun. With Mercury in Cancer, our minds become more receptive and intuitive and our attention turns toward our comfort zones along with our connections with our friends, families, and loved ones. Our thoughts become more driven by our emotions during this transit, and some of us may feel a bit more sensitive. Now is an excellent time for family gatherings and communicating our emotions with those who help us to feel safe and supported.
The Sun conjunct Mercury brings clarity of purpose to our thoughts, communications and short-term plans. Our minds can become sharper and more analytical under this influence, which is great for mentally stimulating work of any kind.
Thursday (6/22): No major planetary aspects today. The moon is in its dark phase in Gemini today as we wind down and turn our attention inward in preparation for tomorrow’s New Moon in Cancer.
I hope you all have a beautiful week! Check back later this week for the full rundown on Friday’s New Moon! ☺
