September 2021 Astro-Highlights: Big New Moon Awakenings & Mercury Retrograde!

monthly astrohighlights Sep 01, 2021

This month kicks off with a surprisingly pleasant New Moon in Virgo in a super-tight, harmonious trine with the Great Awakener Uranus, which is currently shaking things up in the grounded, sensual earth sign of Taurus. With Uranus in retrograde, we can expect big epiphany moments that inspire us to change our lives in ways weve never dreamt possible! Mercury, planet of communication, rational thinking, organization and travel will also be stirring things up at the end of this month when it stations retrograde in the normally balanced and beautiful sign of Libra! This particular retrograde is likely to be extra potent and impactful due to the transits Mercury will be making during its retrograde period, both positive and challenging. As we enter into this next retrograde season, we can expect deja vu experiences stirring up major intensity mixed with incredible blessings that may come back around due to whats been seeded in the past. The later part of this month brings with it a reap what youve sewn energy, so dont be surprised if the past catches up to you in a big way!

New Moon in Virgo

Exact on September 6th, 2021 at 6:51pm MDT

Most active September 3rd through 9th

The New Moon in Virgo forms a super powerful and very close trine with the disruptive and liberating “Great Awakener,” Uranus, which is currently moving retrograde in the sign of Taurus.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign that thoroughly enjoys feeling comfortable, safe and secure. With Uranus in the mix, we’ve been stretching far outside of our comfort zones these

last few years—sometimes of our own volition, and other times as victims of circumstance. In either case, this New Moon allows us to reap the rewards cultivated through a lot of change and experimentation AND gives us a leg-up in intentionally creating the life we want to create.

With Pluto in aligning with the New Moon as part of a Grand Earth Trine, expect deep observations, transformative insights, divine inspirations, and a strong fixation on being the change you want to see in your own life and in the world at large.

Because this New Moon is in the sign of Virgo, the big shifts we seed through our intentions are likely to benefit not just us, but the good of others as well. Virgo is the sign of service and, with the New Moon in opposition to compassionate Neptune in Pisces, we’re likely to be feeling quite humble, grateful for what we have, and eager to give back in whatever way we can.

Venus enters Scorpio

Exact on September 10th, 2021 at 2:30pm MDT

Active September 10th through October 7th

Venus is the planet that is best known for its influence on relationships, and in the intense and passionate sign of Scorpio, interpersonal energy can become intense, to say the least! Venus in Pluto craves deep psychological and emotional intimacy and holds on tightly to what it loves, cares for and desires—on both an interpersonal and physical level. People may become more possessive over those they care about and jealousy may rear its ugly head a bit more so than usually over these next few weeks. On on a more positive note, this transit facilitates intimacy, loyalty and deep trust in healthy partnerships, romantic or otherwise, strengthening bonds in a way that’s truly meaningful.

Mars enters Libra

Exact on September 14th, 2021 at 6:13pm MDT

Active September 14th through October 30th

Mars moves into its detriment in the sign of Libra, where it will remain through the end of October. With Mars in this typically fair and balanced sign, there can be a discomfort with asserting ones willpower. Mars in Libra can be somewhat helpful for those who are too assertive because it forces us to take into account the needs of others before taking action. On the other hand, for those who already have hesitancy around jumping in and taking action when and where it’s needed, Mars in Libra can simply dampen our drive to get things done. The key here is to find a healthy balance between our ambitions and the goals and ambitions of others without becoming so submissive in the process that we become ineffective.

Full Moon in Pisces

Exact on September 20th, 2021 at 5:54pm MDT

Most active September 17th through 23rd

This month’s Full Moon in Pisces culminates in a close conjunction with empathic Neptune and a sextile with powerfully psychic Pluto, indicating that the veils will be thin and intuitions will be heightened to the extreme.

Because this Full Moon is opposing Mars (out of sign, but still quite tight) it’s likely that we’ll feel inclined to take direct, immediate action on the intuitive hits that come in—but only after weighing the options and insuring that we’re accounting for the needs of others before moving forward.

In the fanciful and idealistic sign of Pisces, it’s likely we’ll be feeling very hopeful and serene. This is a great Full Moon to engage creativity, spiritual work, visualization exercises, or simply to space out and allow your mind to drift and dream.

Sun enters Libra—Equinox

Exact on September 22nd, 2021 at 1:21pm MDT

Active September 20th through October 22nd

The Equinox this year brings an interesting energy with the Sun quickly moving into an exact conjunction with Mars in its detriment in the typically harmonious and level-headed sign of Libra! The start of this Libra season is all about acting on your willpower without stepping on too many toes and taking into account the needs of others before diving in head first into new projects based on impulse. With Saturn in the mix, a slow-and-steady pace and loads of self-discipline are the key to remaining balanced and keeping the peace. This is a great indication for making lots of powerful but measured and sustained progress on all that we have left to wrap up and accomplish through the remainder of the solar year.

Mercury stations Retrograde

Exact on September 26th, 2021 at 11:10pm MDT

Active September 26th through October 18th

Mercury stations retrograde in the sign of Libra, where it’s been transiting since August 29th and will remain all the way until November 5th due to its retrograde motion. Mercury in Libra has a rather diplomatic way of explaining things. Rather than taking sides, Mercury in Libra compels us to way the options to consider all potential perspectives and solutions before forming strong opinions. Clearly, this is an energy we could use a lot more of these days! All of being said, Mercury’s transit through Libra is marked by some interesting energy, including several squares to Pluto, which is a planet that has a tendency to bring out all of the extremes in any given situation.

During Mercury’s retrograde period, an important point of reflection is reviewing where each of us has taken our opinions, ideas and communication in an extreme direction. Many of us have been unwittingly holding on for dear life to our emotional and psychological attachments to narratives that might not make much sense when we truly and deeply consider all of the information and perspectives available to us.

Note: This is especially the case when it comes to the perspectives we have a visceral, extreme response to—that type of reaction is very plutonian in nature and should definitely be a point of self-reflection as communication “triggers” come up throughout this Mercury retrograde.
