August 2026 Astrology Forecast: Eclipse Season and What Fate Has in Store
Jul 25, 2026August 2026 marks the official arrival of eclipse season — and with the lunar nodes freshly ingressing into Aquarius and Leo for the first time in roughly 18.6 years, this is not a standard eclipse cycle. The energy arriving this month is rare, fated, and in some cases, has been building for nearly two decades.
Layered on top of that, the Barbault's Basket formation discussed in the July forecast is still active through the middle of the month. The minor grand trine between Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto will remain potent for at least another two years. August is not a clean break from July — it's a continuation and intensification of everything already in motion, with two major eclipses and a Jupiter-Saturn trine arriving before the month closes.
First: What July Set in Motion
To understand August, it's necessary to understand what happened in July — because a significant portion of that energy is still playing out.
The centerpiece of July was Barbault's Basket: a historically rare configuration involving Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto all hovering around four degrees in their respective signs, forming an interlocking series of sextiles and trines. Nothing even remotely similar to this configuration has occurred since 480 AD, and even then it was far less tight.
The Jupiter-Pluto opposition, which came exact around July 20th, was the most intense expression of this formation — bringing the potential for massive changes in direction, extreme shifts in fortune, and circumstances that may have been far more than anticipated.
The basket was kicked off at the start of July by a Mars conjunction to Uranus, which introduced sudden shocks, unexpected revelations, and changes that demanded immediate response. From July 15th through the 24th, all of the outer planet aspects came exact in close succession — the peak intensity of the entire formation.
For many, the lead-up to that peak was extremely disruptive. Some experienced it as external challenges arriving suddenly and without warning, forcing a change in course. Others experienced it as overwhelming but positive — rapid movement on multiple fronts all at once. Almost universally, those with planets in the early degrees of any sign felt the weight of it most directly.
The peak has passed, but the formation continues to operate. The sextiles and supportive aspects remain available — not as something that delivers results automatically, but as structural support for the work of navigating ongoing challenges and acting on emerging opportunities. This is not a one-time event. The choices being made now, and the actions taken in response to what July put in motion, will determine what gets built from it.
The T-Square in Cardinal Signs: Mars, Venus, and Neptune
Before the eclipses arrive, the first half of August carries its own significant complexity in the form of a T-square involving Mars, Venus, and Neptune in the cardinal signs.
Mars squaring Venus came exact on July 29th. Mars squaring Neptune comes exact on August 17th, just after the first eclipse. Throughout this period, Neptune in Aries is the apex of the configuration — and Neptune's presence introduces a pronounced risk of deception and distortion in relationships and interactions. Motivations may not be what they appear. Communications may carry hidden undercurrents. Situations may need to be read more carefully than usual.
Mars in Cancer — a sign where it is in its fall — is operating at its most indirect and passive-aggressive. Mars prefers directness: to act, to confront, to resolve, and to move on. In Cancer, that capacity is compromised. What surfaces instead is harbored resentment, sideways expression, emotional reactivity that lingers rather than discharging cleanly, and conflict that tends to be circuitous rather than honest. For those with strong energy at the early degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), this dynamic is amplified significantly.
The saving grace is Venus, which moves out of its fall in Virgo and into its home sign of Libra during this same period. Venus in Libra offers a counterweight: the capacity to take in the perspective of others, to find genuine common ground, to respond with fairness rather than reactivity. The quality of August's interpersonal landscape will depend significantly on how much of the Libran approach can be brought to bear against the Mars-in-Cancer current.
The practical guidance for this period: express clearly and directly where possible, stay alert to what might be operating below the surface in interactions, resist the pull toward passive-aggressive responses, and bring genuine curiosity to other people's perspectives — especially in moments of friction.
What the Eclipses Are and Why This Cycle Is Different
Eclipses in astrology are amplifications of the lunar nodes — those karmic points in the birth chart that represent the soul's trajectory across lifetimes. The North Node (Rahu in Vedic astrology) carries a relentless pull toward something new: a direction that is unfamiliar, that hasn't been practiced in this lifetime or in previous ones, and that therefore requires a kind of bold, unanchored forward motion. It's all drive and no instinct — meaning the movement forward can be haphazard, even when it's necessary.
The South Node (Ketu) works differently. It operates through what's already known — the accumulated wisdom of past experience. When the South Node is activated, events can feel strangely familiar even when they're objectively new. There's a sense of inevitability, of being led rather than choosing. Things arrive in synchronistic ways that feel predetermined.
Eclipses are convergence points: moments when timelines collapse and what was going to happen regardless of individual choice, happens. They represent the moments in life that create a clear before and after. The events they bring are karmic — fated in a way that most astrological influences simply are not. And crucially, the eclipses of any given cycle set the stage for what unfolds over the following 18 months, not just the current moment.
The lunar nodes having freshly shifted into Aquarius and Leo makes this particular eclipse season distinctive. The axis being activated — Leo's creative individuality, authentic expression, and leadership capacity against Aquarius's collective vision, rational innovation, and group consciousness — has not been the site of eclipses for 18.6 years. What this cycle initiates is genuinely new territory for this generation.
August 12: Total Solar Eclipse in Leo
The first eclipse of the season is a total solar eclipse in the sign of Leo on August 12th, 2026. It is a South Node eclipse — meaning it carries the quality of release, of unraveling, of things coming to an end so that something else can begin.
Because this is also a new moon, the eclipse carries the energy of new beginnings. But these are specifically new beginnings that are rooted in the past: talents cultivated across many lifetimes, paths that feel like they've always been there even when they're technically new, choices that feel obvious even when logic can't account for why. The South Node often brings events that feel fated in this deeply familiar way — as though the path was always this one, and what's happening now is simply the recognition of it.
In Leo, the specific area of release involves authenticity and recognition. This eclipse asks a pointed question about why certain things are being pursued. Is the work being done genuinely aligned with purpose — or is it performing for an audience, seeking validation, chasing the experience of being seen as special? The South Node moving through Leo will surface these distinctions without much sentimentality. Anything built on the need for recognition rather than authentic expression is vulnerable to unraveling during this transit, and trying to hold onto it can accelerate the unraveling rather than prevent it.
This is not a punitive energy — it's a corrective one. The same force that dismantles something inauthentic is also showing what is genuinely aligned, and creating space to step into that. For those willing to let go of what isn't truly theirs, this eclipse initiates a period of more meaningful creative expression and leadership — one that isn't dependent on external validation for its stability.
Jupiter is also in the mix, expanding whatever is in motion. The only major aspect this eclipse makes is a trine to Saturn in Aries, which is at its fall — a weaker influence, but one that carries karmic implications. It reveals where foundations were built hastily or without sufficient grounding, and where something more durable needs to be constructed.
The signs most likely to experience this eclipse positively are those with strong fire sign placements, especially Sagittarius. Gemini and Libra will also feel it in a relatively favorable direction. The most challenging experiences are expected for the fixed signs — particularly Taurus, Aquarius, and Scorpio.
For those with Leo sun, moon, or rising, this is one of the more significant eclipses in recent memory: the kind that produces a before and after, with the next 18 months marking a period of substantial life change.
Geographically, the path of totality runs through Siberian Russia, Greenland, the west coast of Iceland, and Spain and Portugal. Notably, three of the eclipses in this Leo-Aquarius series will pass through Spain — a pattern that suggests significant national events and potentially historically consequential changes in that country over the next two years. For those living in the path of totality, particularly with personal planets around 20 degrees Leo, the intensity of this eclipse is amplified further.
August 27: Partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces
The second eclipse of the month falls on August 27th — a partial lunar eclipse in the sign of Pisces.
As a partial lunar eclipse, this would typically occupy the lower end of the eclipse intensity spectrum. Three factors complicate that assessment considerably.
First, this is the final eclipse in the sign of Pisces. The North Node has moved on; even the mean node will have shifted fully into Aquarius by this point, making this an out-of-sign eclipse. It represents the last opportunity to close out the themes of the Pisces-Virgo eclipse cycle — anything left unfinished across the past couple of years of that nodal axis needs to be resolved here. The energy of moving on, of genuine completion, is strong.
Second, a Mercury cazimi in Virgo occurs on the same day, just hours before the eclipse. Mercury in its home sign, elevated and protected from combustion at the moment of cazimi, brings a quality of exceptional clarity: information becoming suddenly legible, details falling into place, plans taking their final form. This is a moment of revelation and understanding. The cazimi serves as the initiating energy for the eclipse — the intellectual clarity comes first, and then the emotional and intuitive processing of the full moon eclipse deepens and expands it. The rational and the visionary work together here: the moon in Pisces bringing imagination and felt sense to what the mind just clarified.
Third, Uranus in Gemini is forming a very close T-square with this eclipse. That configuration introduces the hallmark Uranian quality of sudden and non-negotiable change. The download arrives — vivid, complete, fully formed — and then the external circumstances move to make that change happen, whether the timing feels comfortable or not. What has been stagnant breaks loose. What has been tolerated despite growing restlessness reaches a threshold point. Boredom, frustration with old patterns, and the recognition that something genuinely cannot continue as it has been — these are the triggers for this eclipse's action.
Those most likely to be directly activated are those with personal planets or angles in the early degrees of the mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. The most supportive experiences of this eclipse are expected for Cancer and Scorpio placements, with Capricorn and Taurus feeling it in a relatively positive direction as well.
The eclipse is visible from the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
Jupiter Trine Saturn: Finding the Opportunity in the Challenge
On August 31st, Jupiter in Leo forms its first trine to Saturn in Aries — the first of three passes of this aspect across the following year. The second pass arrives on April 3rd, 2027, and the third on July 11th, 2027.
Jupiter-Saturn trines are aspects of constructive growth: the kind that requires effort but produces something durable. Both planets are in challenging positions — Saturn is at its fall in Aries, and while Jupiter is not severely afflicted, it is not operating from a position of ease either. This is not an aspect that delivers things effortlessly. What it offers is a broader perspective on what all the difficulty has actually been building toward.
Saturn in Aries has been demanding fast action in situations that genuinely require slow, careful construction. Things have been pushed forward under pressure, built in haste, dealt with in a reactive mode. The lessons of what's being built, what's being corrected, and what's actually meant to come from all of this difficulty have been hard to see from inside it. Jupiter's trine to Saturn begins to change that — offering the perspective that makes meaning out of what has otherwise felt like pure chaos and hardship, and revealing the opportunities that exist within the challenges rather than apart from them.
The practical experience of August 31st, however, is complicated by what immediately follows it. On September 1st, Mars squares Saturn — both planets at their falls, Mars in Cancer and Saturn in Aries — creating a configuration of considerable difficulty. There is significant frustration here, a sense of having to deal with something immediately that resists being fixed immediately, and emotional intensity that makes clear-headed navigation harder than usual. Jupiter's trine mitigates some of this, but the concurrent pressure of Mars-Saturn means the opportunity may be difficult to see from the inside of it.
The exception is Sagittarius: those with strong Sagittarius placements may find that Jupiter and Saturn form a grand trine with their chart, creating a relatively clear view of the opportunity even amid the surrounding pressure.
For the middle degrees of the cardinal signs — Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn — this end-of-month energy is the most directly demanding.
Venus Enters Its Retrograde Shadow
At the very end of August, Venus enters the shadow period of a retrograde that will unfold in October. This is an early signal worth noting.
The Venus retrograde will occur in two distinct phases. The first begins in Scorpio — a sign where Venus is at its detriment — and involves a square to Pluto. This is a period of psychological and emotional intensity around relationships, self-worth, and the capacity to receive and experience love. It's the kind of energy that surfaces what has been avoided or suppressed: where relationships are not what they appear, where the relationship with oneself has been more critical than loving, and where the deeper questions around value and worthiness need to be faced directly.
The second phase of the retrograde takes Venus back into Libra, its home sign. There, it forms a trine to the North Node and a sextile to Jupiter — and the quality shifts entirely. The inner work of the Scorpio phase pays off. Relationships and dimensions of self-worth that were tested in the fire of the first phase can now be revisited with more clarity and genuine appreciation.
The shadow period beginning at the end of August means that some of the Libra themes being experienced now in relationships and areas of value will be revisited during that second, more harmonious phase of the retrograde later in the year. What feels good now, what is genuinely worth holding onto — take note of it. It will come back around.

August is a month that demands both attention and discernment. Between the residual force of July's historic formation, the Mars-Neptune deception risk in the first half, two eclipses that carry genuinely life-altering potential, and the opening of the Jupiter-Saturn trine that will continue to build through 2027, the month is dense with meaning and movement. The thread running through all of it is the same one that has been present all year: this is a moment that is asking for active, conscious participation — not passive observation.
